Best navigation app

No fluff or bloat here. Does what it should do and nothing else. Best mapping and navigation app on the market. However, your email server seems to be misconfigured. I tried email both your addresses but they bounced back.

Super powerful

I’ve used this and its predecessors since at least 2015. I like it a lot. Sometimes it is a bit confusing, but it does just about everything. I would like to be able to save all tracks automatically to iCloud so I can see the tracks I record with my iPhone and Apple Watch on my iPad. Now I have to save each track individually and each one takes three or four taps. Making it automatic would be very nice. I would also like to have a way to put two tracks side by side on a map so I can compare how a trail has been changed over time. Or a way to load tracks onto Apple Maps. Maybe via a MacBook. I will have to fiddle with that. I appreciate that the earlier maps 3d app is still being updated but on my devices you can’t tell which is which other than to remember that one icon is blue on white and the other is white on blue. When managing apps it is confusing. Another cool thing would be to have it talk to Apple’s workout app the way that Strava does. I’d like to get away from strava.

Such a great app

Lots of downloadable maps with tons of details, doesn’t use much battery when tracking. I’ve had this app for years and used on tons of hikes. Interface takes a little time to understand but once you’re familiar it’s stellar. Highly recommend

Best Backpacking GPS Map on the App Store

I’ve tried many apps for using GPS while on long hikes. This one always works well. It’s worked well for years and years. Thanks to the people who make it for making something great.

Way better than On Trail!

I have used this app for trail riding all over the PNW. Easy to use, low battery use, reliable. I have a treasure trove of saved tracks. Love this app! “If you know the trails you will always have a friend to go with you.”

Love this app!! ❤️

Probably the best 3D outdoors map app for the price. I always download a map before my hikes and they are a great help for any overgrown trails or wilderness areas with minimal markings. I have used this trail many times to help navigate old abandoned trails. The various types of maps make it easy to choose which one is best for your need. Friends always ask what is that cool app on your phone. Maps3D is a must have for the outdoor enthusiast.

Go to hiking app

Used free for a year, was great. Paid for pro. This week on casual day hike, loaded the app and received error reporting that the map data server was down. Still no map data. Had to reselect default map provider. This is link in white border at bottom of window of saved maps. 5 stars for great app, -1 star for UI / error handling.

Fabulous

I have used this for many years. I love this app. It would be nice in the app description if you told us what Maps 3D pro does that Maps 3D does not. Please reply.

What happened?

What happened? This app was great and worked great now it runs poorly and doesn’t load….

Great Developer

App is top of the line and offers just about everything you would need. This developer listens to customers and their beta testers. I purchased the app a few years back and have watched it grow. Thank you for a great app and listening to those of us who are eta testing the app. Everything is working well, thank you!

No iCloud sync

I like it but if you change phones you loose all your waypoints and maps and tracks all over because the app does not save that to cloud

Led us to a better path

Bought this a few years ago when I was doing walks. I just wanted to have a journal of my activity. Back then I didn’t expect this app to continue to update. A combination of factors including Covid made us stop all activities shortly after, meaning I didn’t launch this app for ages. Recently, I started cycling again. I was surprised to see Park-Connector-Network (PCN) included in the map. Yesterday, the app actually led us to a better path (PCN) not shown on Google map. By better, I mean away from crowd (regular pavement) as it is difficult to cycle along narrow pavement with many people walking around. I am really impressed with the data that is made available. The app has way more features than I am using. Again, something within expectation since Singapore terrain isn’t as complex. I should try this app overseas. Have to wait for Covid to become a non-issue first before any leisure travel is possible.

Great App but not intuitive

I’ve upgraded to all the options and having difficulty finding options on the menu. But it’s a great app and has made my off track hiking in Scotland so easy!!

Fantastic

What an awesome app. Love it.

Not accurate

CalTopo or Gaia are far better mapping solutions with hill shade. You can fall off an unmapped 60 foot cliff with this map. It might be ok to get the gist of a several mile hike with fairly smooth topology.

Poor User Interface

I was looking for an app to provide a reasonable user interface for Opencyclemap. Well, this app has the maps but that's about it. I can sort of navigate around so I guess the app does what it's supposed to do but, boy, what a poor user interface. If you are used to the haptics of Google Earth or Apple's own Maps app you'll be horribly disappointed. I could write pages about what's wrong with this app but the bucks I spent for it are already way too much so I will surely not make another investment for nothing. Since I have not found anything better yet, I will probably keep using the app for a bit but as the next best thing comes around I'll be happy to ditch it. Oh my... so sad to see hardly any mapping app with a reasonable UI.

Great but missing AW panning

Great program but only suggestion would be to include panning on the Apple Watch.

Terrific app!

There are many hiking apps out there, and I have tried most of them, but this is the best. Not only does it do a great job in terms of offline maps at varying levels of detail and customizable coverage for each, but the 3D functionality really gives you a sense of the terrain you just can’t get otherwise. The best feature, however is the ability to preplan routes and specify just a few points along trails that appear on the map and themn have the app automatically create a oath that actually follows the selected trails!

3D view is awesome

Just wish they would switch / convert their maps to vectorized format

Great app

I’ve been using this app for years and it’s been on many backcountry trips. Has some great features. Offline maps work great. A++

Nice app

plz add topo map support

Amazingly Useful

I have been using this app for about two years now, and it has proven itself useful time and time again. The GPS is surprisingly accurate, and the terrain models show a sufficient amount of detail. The ability to save offline chunks and plot and track routes is what makes this app awesome. It has saved me many times when the trail disappears under snow or I decide to take a ‘shortcut’ or excursion and lose the trail. It helped me through a 5-day trip in the Sierra range, as well as more day hikes than I can count. It also has proved useful for plotting overland 4x4 trips. Can definitely recommend. Only problem is the step-up structured payment system... it would be nice to just have one Pro version that gives full access to whatever the app can offer. tl;dr: This app is accurate, helpful, and awesome. Only drawback is the payment structure. Recommend for any outdoor enthusiast.

Strong recommend

I use this for the gps requirements for my scout troop, as well as for track recording in all kinds of hike / bike / paddle situations. Love it!

Pretty darn good

I’ve been using this app for local hikes and it has been great! Love using the offline features to guide me around new hikes. Planning trips with this has really increased my confidence to try new hikes and find new routes for previous ones. It was a bit tedious at first to figure it out but once I got the plan a route feature figured out it’s awesome! I’d like for it to be able to change colors of track routing if I am hiking the same path on the way out. Also what I would REALLY like would be an easy way to print out my planned routes just in case my battery dies. Other than that this is a great bang for your buck app. It may be less user “friendly” than all trails but once you get the hang of it I really think it’s on par or even better! Also this is the first I’ve seen with 3D mode and that is useful as well!

Partially good

The iPhone sides works really well but the Apple Watch’s maps using the app is slow and laggy. Using the crown of my Apple Watch 5 to zoom in or out of the map is not well implemented.

Very good navigation app

I would like to begin my review by apologizing to the developer and any potential user who saw my previous review. I was having trouble with some features in the app and wrote the review out of frustration. I was able to fix it by turning on the Compass Calibration in the Privacy Settings of my iPhone 6s. I use this app every single day at work so I rely a lot on it. I’ve found myself sometimes deep in the forest and thanks to the app I’ve been able not only to find my way back, but the safest way. I appreciate the developer for being so kind to me with his or her response. The only thing I need now is to recover all my waypoints.

Fantastic app!

I’m surprised I didn’t learn of this app sooner. It’s great for hiking trails off-line (I.e., where you may not have cell signal).

ios13

It isn’t compatible with ios13

The best navigation app out there!

This is my first ever App Store review, and its for this app. This app is my go to navigation app, along with google maps. I’ve tried tens of other apps, and none beats the value or functionality this app. For a one time $4 fee, I’ve got everything. Features I found really useful/invaluable- 1- offline nav. There are other apps that also offers this, but the value isn’t there. They either ask for a subscription, or their maps aren’t as detailed or as useful. 2- choice of maps. In the states I like usgs topo, or topo map 1 or 2. Elsewhere, topo map 1 seems to be my go to- it has a lot of bike lanes mapped out around urban areas, and the terrain features are succinct. 3- route building. There are a few routing services (mapquest, graphhopper, yours) that you can play around with, and generally they are on point. They have a good balance between directness, best route for your method of going (biking, car, hiking, etc), and common sense (not trying to go above be the highest mountain even if it’s the most direct) 4- search. Search feature/point of interests surprisingly will show up even the most obscure place in remote areas 5- various app settings. All super useful - you can manually reduce gps accuracy, change overlay settings to make things easier to read, all super useful when I’m looking for a no frills app that will make efficient use of my precious iPhone battery. Other apps look and seem clunky that will take up tons of battery, all for a nice shiny look, but with crap functionality 6- recording. You can record and export your gpx file, super useful for journaling and keeping track. All in all, I keep coming back to this app. Other apps seem seductive, but this app does it all and it does it with no fuss, all bang. You guys rock!

Laggy app

This app seems to lag sometimes and has difficulty loading maps in mountainous areas. I tried loading maps while on forest service roads, where I had cell signal, and the maps would freeze and not load as I zoomed in to look for roads and plan a route. I have purchased the full app, so I’m disappointed so far. I’ll continue to use it and hopefully have more success. This should work fine without cell reception anyway, seeing as how it is based on GPS for location, versus cell reception and data.

Best app for Topographical Maps!

Love it. Thank you.

Map of Americus, GA outdated

The Map of Americus Georgia is seriously outdated. The Hospital shown on the map was destroyed out by a Tornado in 2007 and Georgia South Western is a university not a college.

Disappointed in change

My hiking group used Maps3D ALL the time exclusively because we were able to exchange tracks via email. Now, when it is emailed, it comes up with gibberish. What happened? We are now exploring different apps to use that we can send GPX. Also, lately, it’s not been working as well. Very difficult to bring up the map whilst hiking. Just grid lines...so disappointed as I’ve used it for four years now and I have so many tracks in there. Would love it, if it could be resolved. That would be a five star rating.

Not a bad option.

[Update] My initial review was based on an experience involving a bad connection. Once that was sorted out it actually worked as advertised, though it still loads slowly when tested on numerous internet platforms. Unless you intend to buy the full app (in app purchase) there my be better free apps out there for planning a trip. If you are intending to go all in, I think it is a very helpful app to visualize an area you are thinking of hiking through. I have not used it on the trail, so I can’t add any info about using it in the field.

Solid UI, great map data

The map data and UI are both great, makes the app a joy to use. The only downside is there are some iOS features that they have called behind on, like background support, and layout for an iPad screen.

Planning routes can be frustrating/impossible at times

The app is useful, but like many others it can be frustrating when trying to plan a route. Often times there may be small gaps or sections of unmarked trail between established trails on the map. There is no way that I have found to use a combination of route calculation AND direct path measurements within the same planned route. So either the route calculation winds around an obscure path to connect 2 route points, or you’re stuck connecting a million route points, even on the parts that cover established map trails. Really there should be a setting to be able to change the routing options between set route points, instead of just for the whole planned route. Other features seem great, but I really wanted this app to accurately plan routes ahead of time, and it just doesn’t deliver in that realm.

You cannot get a refund for this app if you purchase it by mistake.

You cannot get a refund for this app if you purchase it by mistake.

No iPad support.

App works great on the iPhone. But on the iPad, it’s just the phone version. It should be a native app. I bought all the upgrades for the Pro version.

Great for hunters

I’m an avid hunter and use this app every time I’m in the woods. Makes it easy to mark where my tree stands are, or where I find sign of deer. It is also nice to see where I’ve walked on the days I am walking through the woods.

Great app

I’ve had this app for a while alongside with Gaia. I’m dropping Gaia now bc they made it a subscription. I can tell you Maps3D does pretty much what I liked from Gaia.

Love this app but...

When I first purchased the app it had a satellite view option. I hate that they took it away, it was really useful sometimes. Other than that I love this app.

Better than Garmin

We tested this out on a 20 mile snowshoe. My $600 Garmin ran out of battery half way there. This app kept tracking. I’ve been using it now for years. You don’t have to load extra maps that cost hundreds more, you don’t have to bring an extra item, just your phone, the mileage and elevation are accurate, it works reliably without service even deep in the North Cascades, and it is far more intuitive to use. It allows you to plot your own route but has most hiking trails already available. This is better than Gaia, Carin, and All trails. Please stay in business forever 🙏🏼

You fixed it!!! Now it’s truly awesome

Great app to use. Just download the map for the area you need and you can’t get lost. Used it for hiking and motorcycling trips and it was reliable and easy.

3D brings the Map to Live

I have been a topographic map user for over 20 years. This 3D/2D App is superb! I immediately upgraded to the Maps Plus Package, since I liked what the basic package provided. I was able to find hiking and kayaking places that I visited for many years in 3 different countries: they are perfectly depicted in luxury of details. The support staff promptly responds to any question or recommendation. Maps 3D will not disappoint the outdoor enthusiast, it is highly recommended

Slow Map Downloads

The offline map downloads are unbelievably slow. It took about 10 minutes to download 60mb over WiFi. It does not download in the background, which means you lose full functionality of the app for the duration. Large map chunks appear to be around 3gb... so if you did want to download a large chunk don’t plan on using the app today.

Perfect Solution

Great Application! Downloaded maps and navigation in airplane mode lets you use GPS with very little battery drain. I’m planning on replacing my Garmin GPS with this, after testing on 9 day trip this summer.

Great concept but poor reliability

It glitches when searching an address and then moving the map, really difficult to save a location , and is very slow. But when it works it’s very cool and useful
