Maps 3D PRO - Hike & Bike App Reviews

Still the best!

I just bought a more expensive and well-advertised topo map app. After an hour exploring some remote islands, I was back to using this one. This is still the only app that lets me take a 3D model of the mountain in my pocket, offline, to the mountains! And its full of other helpful features too: good maps, track recording options, data exporting, and more.

Great hiking app

I have used a number of hiking gps apps, looking for something to replace my aging dedicated Garmin unit. This is the best one Ive found. It seems to acquire the gps signal really quickly, and I like the downloadable maps. A really great app!

A steal!

Does exactly what it is supposed to. Works great offline. No subscription fee. Does not constantly prompt you for a subscription either. Probably the best $5 I spent on an iPhone app.

Close to being Great

Good app with annoying waypoint organization. I thought the app deleted all my waypoints because they didnt show up in the waypoints tab, but it turns out theyre just stuck to the map I was using at the time I marked the point. This doesnt make any sense, and Id really prefer if I could organize the waypoints in to folders independently of the downloaded maps. I used this hike on the 165-mile Tahoe Rim Trail and being able to zoom out after the trip to see all the waypoints around Lake Tahoe would be great, but since I used separate maps for the different sides of the lake I cant get the overview. Id also like to be able to delete the downloaded maps off my phone without losing all my waypoints.

Impressive app

It takes A bit to get used to using the app, but the Apple far exceed anything I will ever have to use it for. Awesome app, works great. Shows all the hiking trails on the map, which is precisely what I use this app for, hiking. I highly recommend it for anyone.

Exactly what I was looking for

Perfect for planning and tracking hikes. The ability to have a 3D offline map that uses GPS is so critical when hiking unfamiliar terrain. Absolutely love this app.

Slow

Slow laggy and buggy. Better than nothing but could be much better

Plus and minus

The maps themselves are great and has easy downloadable area controls unlike others and 3D is awesome. The other controls/options are kinda funky and take some getting used to. My main frustration is when zooming in on an imported route it disappears if zoomed in close. Kind of important to have when route finding. Also it just lost the ability to download satellite images which it previously had-hope that gets fixed as thats one reason I purchased it.

Worked Great Now no MapQuest Satellite

This app worked great for me until July 2016, when for some reason MapQuest Satellite map was discontinued. Whats up?

Encouraging, useful but buggy

This app has a lot of potential, but it also many bugs. It is typical example of a feature rich application made by a team that is less concerned about quality , hardening and operability. Still, it might be worth the money since I havent found equivalent feature topo hiking map.

Great app

Works well but lost sat map on July 11,16. Not sure when they are getting back.

Great App but....

I would give this app 5 stars but there currently isnt an aerial view map. Please add or fix this.

Best hiking topographic app map ever

A desktop version would be great for route planning

Great for exploring and taking hiking routes

Fast and powerful

Outstanding!!! 3D Maps

Such a great fast and easy way to locate, track and save your outdoor whereabouts!!! Ive used this the last two years hiking/hunting in Colorado. My phone has no service were I hunt, but it works faster/better/easier than our expensive gps units that we dont use anymore! Now more than ten friends in camp have downloaded it and all love it! Would pay much more for this app, and would gladly pay a yearly fee for additional updates, upgrades and keep this app continuing its great service! Your safe, very doubtful to get lost in the woods.

Amazing mapping for the price

I purchased this app to help me find a trail I knew existed but could not find. I placed some pins where I thought is was and went right to it. The map downloads and offline capability make it awesome in remote areas.

Great App!

Offline maps (several types to choose from), ability to choose the ares you want to download so you dont use more memory than necessary, contour lines on maps, built in altimeter that responds very quickly, 3D. Everything you would want except the ability to plan a route that follows the actual trail, not a series straight lines connecting waypoints. Get Footpath app for that (only app I have found that will "snap" to trail during planning a route) and export the result to Maps 3D and you have the best of all worlds!

USELESS APP!

Maps dont download nor behave properly. Dont waste your time, energy, or money! Your better better off using Google maps which is free and works far better.

Great App

Ive used this for a couple years now. I wanted to purposely write a good review for Maps 3D. It picks up a GPS signal very easily. It will work miles from any cell tower (in Airplane Mode). Its super thrifty on power useage. I love the 3D part when were out hiking, I can turn on 3D view and see how far weve got to go before it gets level. I love the track part. Before I start walking, I turn on record and it makes a perfect track of where Ive been. This is super comforting on the way back down, sometimes I wont remember some landmark and wonder if Im still on the same trail. A quick look at my tracks shows me that Im on the same way I came up. It will literally tell me is Im 10 feet off the trail (awesome if youre walking on snow).

Used to be awesome.

This was an awesome App, once upon a time, now, not so much. Theyve scaled down the download size/area you can use big time. As an example, you could download all of Yosemite NP in one map but now it requires several (dont know how many because I gave up trying!). You used to be able to zoom in up close and personal no matter the size of the map, as required for actual navigation, but now youre lucky if you can zoom in at all. Sort of defeats the whole purpose of the App. The map you are forced to use to download a map area is worthless as it lacks any sort of detail, you pretty much have to guess and hope for the hit or miss best. I have contacted the developers several times regarding these issues with zero response. Ill keep it in my library hoping for some fixes, but at this point its just another mindless amusement.
